Christmas in Karuhatan

Finally, our Christmas tree is up! I didn't have to worry about the Christmas lights strewn about the house, they've been there all year long, just left unplugged. But the Christmas tree -- at last! I'd almost forgotten how cozy it was to have a fake, foldable, packable Christmas tree in the middle of your living room.

In the end, it was my mother who tacked the string to the ceiling, so that our star could dangle just right on top of the tree. My father and I both wanted to save her from the arduous task of climbing up the tall (and wobbly) monobloc stool and reaching up precariously on tip toe with a tiny thumb tack between fore and index finger. But we weren't up to it: we were both too short, unfortunately.

But anyway the Christmas tree is there, where it'll probably stay through Christmas and New Year, and Chinese New Year, and even till that thing in January they call Three Kings. Maybe even Valentine's. After all, we're in the Philippines and this is a Pinoy Christmas!
